Sarah Skibsted, LPC
I am grateful you are considering placing your trust in me. It takes courage to place trust in
another with the intimate details of ones life. Let me tell you more about myself and my
counseling style.
I received a Masters in Counseling from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2004. I have
experience working in both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric settings with all age groups. I am
also a nurse and have worked in healthcare for over 25 years. I understand and appreciate the
complexities related to both mental and physical health. I believe healing takes place in the mind,
body and soul.
My counseling approach is person-centered. I will listen to you in a nonjudgmental manner with
compassion, empathy and concern. My strength is developing a trusting relationship utilizing
interpersonal skills to help you problem solve to create the life you desire. I will help you
explore places that you may not have been able to access on your own. I believe you are your
own expert in healing. I am here to assist you in the process.
Together we can develop a plan to help you navigate whatever difficulties you are facing to move
you closer to your goals. Once we have developed a trusting relationship I can best individualize
treatment utilizing some of the following therapeutic approaches: Motivational Interviewing,
Mindfulness, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I am continually researching and seeking ways
to serve my clients. I have recently completed a certification in grief counseling and am
constantly furthering my knowledge in the areas of neuroscience, somatic, and trauma research.
In addition to working as a therapist I am also embarking on a new role as a part time hospice
nurse which has opened a new area of study for me into the areas of grief, death and dying that I
am looking forward to exploring.
On my free time you will find me spending time outdoors exploring this amazing countryside,
trying to get to a yoga class or relaxing at home with music and the company of my loved ones. I
also enjoy expanding my knowledge base on areas of health, the mind and the human condition.
